What Is a Glow-up?

According to the Urban Dictionary:

A Glow Up is a mental, physical, and emotional transformation for the better. Glow Ups can be both natural and planned. As well as being gradual and permanent, or fast and temporary.

A glow-up is more than just a physical transformation although you can choose to transform only that aspect in your life. A glow-up can be an emotional transformation such as a positive mindset change or an overall feeling of happiness. It’s also a physical transformation such as an athletic or fitness transformation, a weight loss transformation, and a detoxification transformation.

How To Glow Up Physically

Ditch Processed Foods

Processed foods are very bad for you. They are loaded with sugar, salt, and preservatives that can cause all sorts of health problems in the future. They are not good for your body because they lack any nutritional value whatsoever. If you want to be healthy and live a long life then ditch processed foods for whole food alternatives. Since the additives in processed foods are addictive, It will be hard at first but it’s worth it!

Cut Out Sugar

Did you know sugar causes a glycation process that actually ages you? Glycated proteins form cross-links between them which makes skin look older than its actual age.

This is why people who eat too much sugar have more wrinkles on their faces than someone who eats a diet low in sugar.

The same thing happens when we drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.

Sugar can also lead to insulin resistance, obesity, high cholesterol, non-alcohol fatty liver disease, and lots of other health complications.

Cutting out sugar and making it a special treat for birthdays and Holidays is a much better plan and you don’t feel like you’re missing out!

Eat More Veggies

Did you know that some vegetables give you a natural glow and help make your skin look better?

For example:

  • Broccoli has been shown to help reduce the appearance of fine lines around your eyes by up to 50%.
  • Carrots contain antioxidants and vitamins A and E that will give your skin a healthy glow. They also help lower blood pressure!
  • Cucumbers (they are actually fruit) help detoxify the body and hydrate the skin.
  • Cauliflower contains biotin (vitamin B7) which is good for strong nails and hair

Eating more veggies will not only make you look younger but they’ll also improve your overall health.

Get Some Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential for health and wellbeing and the best source of vitamin D is the sun! If you live in an area where it’s sunny, spend some time outside every day or at least get out during daylight hours.

Combine it with a 30-minute walk to sneak in some exercise while working on your mood!

Work Out Every Day

No, you don’t have to bust your butt every day, but rather think of exercise snacking or micro workouts. The main goal is to start the day with a short 10-minute workout (I love yoga first thing in the morning) and do short workouts during the day. Think squats, push-ups, kettlebell swings, and more.

This is particularly important if you’re sitting behind a PC all day. Get up and walk around, grab a set of weights and do some bicep curls.

Little and often is the motto!

Finish the day with a short slow flow or yin yoga workout to stretch those muscles and relax before bedtime. I love this 30-day evening challenge by Kassandra and combine it with her morning yoga challenge. Easy and it’s only 25 minutes a day!

Get a Good Nights Sleep

The best way to get a good night’s sleep is to have a bedtime ritual. This ritual can be as simple as taking a bath or reading a book before bed, but it should be something that you enjoy and doesn’t feel rushed.

How To Glow Up Mentally

Practice Gratitude Every Day

A great way to practice gratitude every day is to write down 5 things for which you are grateful in your journal each morning. You will also want to add one more thing at the end of the week so that it becomes an ongoing habit.

Create a Positive Environment For Yourself

Surround yourself with positive people who make you happy. Let them know how much they mean to you by sending them gifts or cards on special occasions.

If you find someone whose energy makes you uncomfortable, cut ties immediately.

This may sound harsh especially when it concerns a partner or a family member, but remember that you can’t change them, and they will keep dragging you down.

The same applies to negative energy activities like watching the news, reading about politics, etc. The news is not here to inform you but to scare you and spread negativity. It’s never called good news because the media only has bad news.

Next time you watch bad news ask yourself if there’s any action you can take right now with the “information” you’ve just been given.

If the answer is yes, go out and do it right now. If the answer is no, turn off the media and do something productive and/or positive that actually works for you!

The same goes for social media: if you feel negative after scrolling through your feed for over an hour, you’ve just wasted an hour of your life that you’re never getting back.

Spend that hour on something that enhances you physically, mentally, or spiritually, so you’ll become healthier, richer, more successful, and happier!

Practice Affirmations

Repeating positive affirmations throughout the day can help to boost your energy levels and keep you motivated towards achieving your goals. Try saying one affirmation every time you wake up in the morning, before going to bed at night, as well as when you have a break from work.

Start with short and precise affirmations using powerful and emotional words that resonate with you. Check my post filled with positive affirmation ideas.

Enhance Your Skills

Learn or do something every day to enhance your skills. Maybe there’s a course you’ve been wanting to do for ages but haven’t got round to it yet?

Or maybe you’re an expert on a certain topic and want to share what you know with others?

Whatever makes sense to you – just make sure that whatever you choose to learn is relevant to your life and career path.

Boost Your Confidence

Working on your physical appearance with real food and daily workouts is sure to give a you confidence boost. But there are other things you can do such as going out more, reading positive quotes, having fun with friends and family, taking up new hobbies, etc.

Figure out in which areas you need a confidence boost and go for them! You’ll be surprised how much better you feel after doing so.

Glow Up Ideas Conclusion

Incorporating some or all of these glow ideas into your life can lead to a physical, mental, and spiritual transformation. Just make sure to take things slow and steady so that you can really enjoy the process and see lasting results. So what are you waiting for? Get glowing!
