At Home anti aging devices promise to reduce wrinkles, stimulate collagen, firm sagging skin and improve skin tone. According to top dermatologists at home anti aging devices really do work as long as YOU put in the work.
You can get the same results with an home anti aging device as you get at the dermatologist’s office, but it does take commitment and more time. The at home devices have a lower strength, meaning you need more sessions to get the same results.
The difference between an at home anti aging device and a dermatologist’s office?
The price of course!
The time it takes to see the results!
As an example: A treatment with a red LED light device at the dermatologist costs anywhere between $50 and $200 per treatment.
A home anti aging device can cost anywhere from $50 and $500, but that price is a one-off! The device is yours and you can use it as many times as needed to get the desired result.
Top Home Anti Aging Devices
We have researched for the best at home anti aging devices. Read about our picks below.
LightStim for Wrinkles
Best for: reducing wrinkles and fine lines, minimizing pores, restoring radiance
The LightStim for Wrinkles has been around for more than 15 years now, winning multiple awards including the Pure Beauty Award, Dermascope Aestheticians’ Choice Award and the American Spa Professional’s Choice Award.
This anti aging device is also FDA cleared for the treatment of facial wrinkles.
How does it work?
The LightStim uses red light therapy to stimulate collagen and elastin production in your skin. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks that keep your skin youthful and firm.
The device uses 72 LED lights in colors like infrared, deep red, light red and amber, which work together to emit multiple wavelengths of light.
This light applied on skin can help to increase production of collagen and elastin, reduce inflammation, increase circulation and destroy acne-causing bacteria.
In a clinical study done with the LightStim, 100% of participants showed significant improvement of wrinkles and fine lines after 8 weeks of use.
How To Use Lightstim
- Cleanse your face using your favorite cleanser
- Place the device on your bare face or apply a little bit of the LightStim photoserum
- Hold the LighStim in place for 3 minutes
- Move the device to a new area and repeat until all desired areas are treated
- Repeat 5-7 times a week
- After you have reached your desired results, keep using the LightStim for at least 2 times a week
The LightStim is backed up by a 90 day money back guarantee and a 2 year warranty
Baby Quasar MD PLUS Skincare Therapy Device
The Baby Quasar MD PLUS Skincare Therapy Device works by stimulating the production of collagen. Use the device after cleaning you skin by moving the light over your face (avoid the eye are).
Treatment takes 15 minutes and you need to do this 5 times a week for 8 weeks.
After 8 weeks you can maintain the results by using the Baby Quasar just 2 times a week.
Tria Age-Defying Laser
Best for: smoothing wrinkles. In my own experience it also firms up skin.
I actually own the Tria Age-Defying Laser myself and I love it! According to the manufacturer this device promises to:
Visibly restore the natural luminosity of your entire face and smooth hard-to-treat wrinkles for a more youthful, radiant and refreshed look in as little as 2 weeks. Read reviews here!
I largely agree with this statement except that I found in my case that it took more like a month before I saw results.
A pleasant side effect not mentioned by the manufacturer is that your skin does firm up. In my case around the jawline, where I was showing those horrible jowls you get after a certain age. (you know the ones…)Well they are certainly gone and I couldn’t be happier!
Another happy effect: my brown spots have faded.
How does the Tria Age-defying laser work?
The Tria Age-defying laser is a diode laser cleared for home use. It sends targeted beams deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production.
The result is more youthful and luminous skin with fewer wrinkles.
Keep in mind that the Tria is not a LED device and not comparable to the other devices mentioned here.
Tria Age-defying laser Usage tips
Divide your face into 4 treatment zones(cheeks left and right, forehead and chin area) and start with level 1 using the device on your face. Level 1 will take 30 seconds per zone, so 2 minutes for the whole face. The Tria will beep after the time is up, so you know when to move on the next zone.
Although it didn’t hurt, I did feel some stinging whiles using the Tria and my skin was red afterwards, like a mild sunburn. This didn’t last long, but I would recommend to use the device at night for the first few weeks.
After about a week I was ready to go level 2, which takes a minute per zone. Level 2 certainly has a higher intensity than 1.
Again some mild redness after use is to be expected, but it will fade quickly.
I reached level 3 after another week. Level 3 I believe has the same intensity as level 2, but takes 2.5 minutes per treatment zone. After a few treatments my skin did not get red anymore.
After treatment I used the Estee Lauder advance night repair serum to hydrate my skin. It also cools your skin a bit and does feel nice.
Tria does recommend the use of their own serum, but you can use any other serum as long as it does not contain any harsh ingredients.
Treat your face with the Tria Age-defying laser for 5 days a week for 12 weeks and then there’s a 4 week break.
If you like you can start again. I did and experienced more improvements in my skin.
NOVA RED Light Therapy Machine
Best for: reducing wrinkles, lifting skin
The NOVA RED Light Therapy Machine is a cheaper version of the Quasar and LightStim devices. Does this mean it’s bad? No, it actually has many happy reviews, much like the aforementioned devices.
And it works the same as the other LED therapy devices. The Novared lifts skin and reduces wrinkles by boosting collagen production. It can be charged with the included charger or via a USB port on your pc/laptop.
What you do need to realize and I like to say this again: Consistency is key!
These devices require you to use them several times a week for at least 4-8 weeks to be able to see results and you have to keep it up afterwards. The upkeep or maintenance usually needs to be done a few times a week.
Make sure to check the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
The reason I emphasize this again is because I researched the anti aging home devices and was shocked when I came across several reviews from people who said they saw actual results after using the device (firmer skin and less wrinkles), but returned it because they did not like having to use it so much to keep up the results.
It’s the same as going to the gym: don’t expect results in 1 week and don’t expect those results to last, if you don’t keep up!
